Today I decided to drive into the hills, aka The Dutch Mountains. I stopped at the train station of Klimmen-Ransdaal, about 12 miles from my home. This train station is very quiet and not a lot of commuters stop there.

When I started sketching my car was the only one on the parking lot. Halfway my sketch a lot of cars stopped and the place started to be really busy. Their drivers did not come for the trains, but for the train station’s snackbar and its ‘frietjes’, which is Dutch for fries. People even arrived way before the ‘cholesterol business’ opened, waiting in their cars.

I realised that I was happy to be a sketcher: no time for an unhealthy snack and enjoying the sun outside. After adding the last colours I took a sip from my water bottle and drove away through the hills enjoying the latest album of The Paper Kites, called ‘On the Train Ride Home’.

Happy weekend sketching,
