Last Sunday I went to the woods near my birth town Elsloo, which is next to my home town Stein. Actually the border between both towns draws a line straight through my garden. I decided to go early, because I wanted to sketch before all the hikers would start passing by and stop next to me. I still like to keep social distance and more and more people forget about it.

On the edge of the woods there is a great spot with a beautiful view on the old village of Elsloo. I decided to take a seat at a sculptured bench to enjoy the view and start sketching. I do not always use a pencil first, but this time I was feeling patient and picked my pencil to set up the sketch.

I really enjoyed the bird songs and at the same time getting absorbed by the activity of sketching and playing with watercolours. After two hours I headed home for an early lunch. Often I put a way my sketch before I have a look again to decide that it needs something extra. On Monday evening I did some finishing touches and added some sparks with white gouache, thinking of the wonderful time I had close to home. You can watch the video of the whole process below this article.

I hope you had a good week and managed to go out and sketch.

Happy sketching,
